Mad Wife In The Attic

Weaving from the archive…

Jacket Resized

My hand-woven jacket — now “Vintage.”

I made this jacket sometime around 1983 — 30 years ago!!  I made this for a weaving class in college and this is hand-woven fabric of off-white mohair with a silver thread wound round it.  The weave pattern has a nice pillowy texture.  It closes with silver frogs and is lined in silk moiré.  I used this Christian Dior pattern.  I still love this jacket and this Dior design is absolutely perfect for a heavy fabric.  It has a lovely shape and the simple construction shows off the fabric beautifully.  It can be difficult to match a hand-woven fabric with a garment design that really works.

Dior Pattern

My husband took this photo sometime around 1990. Mike took this photo and developed it in his darkroom — back in the old film and darkroom days of yore! I wish the jacket was more prominent in the photo, but the photo does show how flattering this Dior design is.
